Tekhne will be a twelve month video and audio collaborative project
based upon Kari McQueen's dual-role in the two week Interrarium Creative
Residency (Banff Centre) as participant and media artist. McQueen's
objectives are twofold: the first is to experience and observe the
collective approach of an artistic intensive leading to creative breakthrough.
After the residency, the second objective is the completion of six
experimental shorts in collaboration with six audio artists, reflecting
the collaborative processes of a creative residency. Clinker has been
commisioned to create a sound and music score for one of Kari's Tekhne
audio-visual shorts to be completed in 2009.
The influence and mentorship of conceptual artist Darwin Meyers was
pivotal in the early development of Clinker. Darwin also helped to
define Clinker's initial artistic mandate and contributed all of the
song titles to Clinker's first self titled release in 2003.
Since meeting in 2003 at MUTEK, Clinker's relationship
with the audio-visual duo Nomig. has continued to grow well beyond
artistic practice. Nomig's constant exploration into the state-of-the-art
in new media (both conceptually and technically) has been a continuous
influence and resource and has informed Clinker's practice for many
years. Clinker loves Nomig period, end of storey...
We have been nurturing a creative "think tank" relationship
and have definite plans to develop new audio-visual works in the future.
